Booker Ervin - Lament For Booker Ervin
Label: EnjaCat#: ENJA-2054Jazz, USA, 1975RYM
Note: The video below was the only song I found on the tube and is a tribute to Mr. Ervin by Horace Parlan (which is the 2nd track on the b-side of this LP). Here’s a copy/paste comment from RYM…

The story behind the one song on this album by Booker Ervin is really funny.  Booker Ervin, best known for his smokin’ pyrotechnic tenor sax playing with Charles Mingus, was booked along with a bunch of other saxophonists to play at a concert in Europe.  There was so many bookings that Booker was only supposed to play 15 minutes.  Well, Booker wasn’t going to go along with that!  Instead he played one deadly song and soloed like mad for 27 and a half minutes.  The crowd was in awe.  If ever there was an underrated jazz saxophonist, it’s Booker Ervin.  The other track on this recording is a touching solo piano tribute to Booker by Horace Parlan, who was part of the lineup on October 29th, 1965.
